Leadership

Leading engineering organizations requires skill. Leading innovation to create a new industry requires foresight and a collaborative approach.  New engineering leaders especially need coaching and training to help them succeed in their new roles.

For engineers in leadership roles, whether a project manager or a people manager or a lead architect, success depends on an entirely new set of skills: primarily collaboration, negotiation, and communication. Most engineers are very well trained to do their engineering jobs, but lack training in the very skills necessary to succeed in their new jobs.

The Engineering Leadership Institute addresses this need.  Leaders are nominated by the executives in their organizations to attend this two-year program.

Participants gain critical skills during a one-week intensive boot camp and then add skills during three follow up programs over a two year period.

This two year investment represents a firm's recognition that the success of engineering leaders is vital to the future success of the firm.

The next program begins May 14 2007.  Engineering leaders can be nominated for participation in this outstanding series through the University of Texas Center for Lifelong Engineering Education:  http://lifelong.engr.utexas.edu/shortcourse.cfm?course_num=1068
